1886 Elizabeth Harrison opens Miss Harrison’s Training School ; the modern American kindergarten movement begins. 1930 The college changes its name to the National College of Education (NCE) , and introduces the first four-year teacher-training program in Illinois. 1988 NLU’s Florida Campus is established in one of Tampa’s major business districts. It serves a diverse population nationwide with online and on-site opportunities. 1990 In recognition of the Louis family’s tremendous generosity, the institution is renamed National Louis University . 2016 NLU launched the Pathways Program , a new undergraduate experience designed to provide a supportive, quality, affordable, and equity- focused education to all learners. 2018 NLU acquired Kendall College , adding culinary and hospitality management programs. 2020 NLU launched Accelerate U , a “job-first” higher education model offering short-term, market-aligned, stackable credentials to underemployed learners seeking a rapid route to employment. 2023 NLU launched the School of Nursing to help address the national shortage of nurses and provide opportunities for students interested in healthcare careers.
