Student-Created Event Reels: Filming Guidelines & Content Ideas

Hello! Thank you for creating an Instagram Reel or TikTok to highlight an event at National Louis University . Your content helps capture the energy of campus life and encourages other students to get involved. Below are some general guidelines and content ideas to consider while filming.

Filming Guidelines

Storytelling Structure your reel to tell the story of the event. Start with an introduction or arrival, highlight key moments and activities, and wrap up with a closing shot or takeaway from the event.

Filming Orientation All video content should be filmed vertically .

Keep it Authentic Capture the real vibe of the event—energy, connection, fun, learning, or community. Natural, in-the-moment content resonates most.

Variety of Shots

● Wide shots: Show the space, crowd, or overall atmosphere ● Medium shots: Activities, speakers, performances, or interactions ● Close-ups: Details like signage, food, hands-on activities, or reactions ● Movement shots: Walking into the event, panning the room, transitions between moments Audio Considerations Use engaging background music or voiceovers. You can also capture natural sound (cheering, clapping, conversation) when appropriate. Make sure audio is clear and suitable for social media. Editing Keep it short and engaging— 30–60 seconds is ideal. Use quick cuts and simple transitions to maintain energy and pacing. Respect Privacy Be mindful of others and avoid filming individuals closely without their consent. Focus on atmosphere and group moments whenever possible.

Content Ideas

Event Arrival Walking into the space, checking in, signage, or first impressions.

Event Highlights Key moments such as speakers, performances, activities, games, or workshops.

Student Engagement Students participating, interacting, networking, or enjoying the event.

Behind-the-Scenes Set-up, volunteers in action, or candid moments that show the effort behind the event.

Food & Giveaways Snacks, swag, tables, or fun details attendees will love.

Student Perspectives Quick soundbites or text overlays answering prompts like:

● “Why did you come to this event?” ● “What’s been your favorite part?” ● “Why should other students attend events like this?”

Atmosphere Shots Crowd energy, décor, music, lighting, or special moments that define the experience.

Wrap-Up A closing shot that captures the end of the event or a takeaway message (e.g., “So glad I came!” or “Don’t miss the next one!”).

Creativity Encouraged

You’re encouraged to let your creativity and personality shine through. Each event—and each student perspective—is unique, and that’s what makes the content engaging and authentic.
