Clinical Rotation Course Learning Objectives See SCPE syllabi (provided separately).
Documenting Clinical Encounters and Procedures The NLU PA Program requires all students to use a designated online patient encounter logging system (e.g., eMedley, E*Value, or equivalent, to be provided by the university) to track all aspects of student clinical encounters while on supervised clinical practice experiences. This system allows the PA program to monitor student progress and will allow student self-assessment of progress toward course learning outcomes. Students will receive training on the use of this system prior to beginning their first clinical rotation. Students are required to record ALL patient encounters in the program's tracking system. It is strongly recommended that students log encounters daily. All patients seen during a rotation must be logged no later than Monday of the return-to-campus (Senior Seminar) week for that rotation. The following information is required for each patient encounter entry: • Preceptor name, clinical site, and time spent with patient during encounter • Community setting, patient population, care setting, and type of patient encounter • Patient condition, patient demographics, and special populations • Diagnosis (with ICD-10 code), procedure performed (if applicable), and level of student involvement Incomplete database entries and/or failure to enter all patients by the designated deadline may result in a reduction of points from the student's professionalism grade for that rotation. Falsification of patient encounter logging is strictly prohibited and constitutes academic dishonesty, which may result in professionalism probation and/or dismissal from the program. All logged patient encounters are required to be de-identified and should not contain any protected health information (PHI). Completing Site and Preceptor Evaluations At the completion of each clinical rotation, students are required to complete an evaluation of the preceptor and the clinical site using the program's tracking system. Preceptor evaluations will assess orientation, site maintenance and safety, clinical hours,
