HIDE If evacuation is not possible, find a place to HIDE: • Go to the nearest room or office or closet and lock and barricade the door. • If the door does not lock, secure and barricade the door with as many obstacles as possible (desk, chairs, tables). • Close the shades/curtains, turn off the lights and get down on the floor and seek cover. No one should be visible from the outside. • Keep quiet and keep your cell phone on silent. • Hide behind large objects • When it is safe, call 911 and inform the dispatcher of your location and provide as much information as possible. Stay there until police or Public Safety give an all clear. • Block windows • Place signs in interior doors and windows, but remember the assailant can see these as well • Keep people calm and quiet • After securing the room, people should be positioned out of sight and behind items that might offer additional protection – walls, desks, file cabinets, bookshelves, etc. • Identify any objects that could be used as potential weapons against the assailant • Remain under cover until law enforcement advises it is safe to evacuate. • Positively verify the identity of law enforcement, as an unfamiliar voice may be the shooter attempting to lure victims from a safe place.

FIGHT As a last resort and only if your life is in danger, FIGHT: • Attempt to incapacitate the shooter • Act with physical aggression • Improvise weapons • Commit to your actions

If you are not immediately impacted by the incident, please take the following action: • Stay away from the building. • Notify everyone around you to stay away. • Obey all verbal direction given by law enforcement/Public Safety officers. • Take protective action and stay away from doors and windows.

The goal is to contain and isolate the individual with the gun, and safe release of any hostages.

Other Items of Note • The assailant may not stop until their objectives have been met or until engaged and neutralized by law enforcement. • Before opening the door for any reason, always consider the risk of exposure. • Attempts to rescue people should be made only if it can be done without further endangering the persons inside of a secured area. • Be aware that the assailant may bang on the door, yell for help, or otherwise attempt to entice you to open the door of a secured area. • If there is any doubt about the safety of the individuals inside the room, the area needs to remain secured. • Do not set off the fire alarm in a lockdown. People may become targets leaving the buildings in
