The overall goal for a testing policy in the School of Nursing is to be consistent and prepare students to succeed on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN®). Students must adhere to the following requirements. Failure or refusal to follow these requirements will result in the students’ removal from the exam and referral to the Executive Director of Nursing. *Please note: In cases where students will use their own laptop for the exam (tablets, e.g., iPad, are sometimes not compatible with the test administration software), they are responsible for ensuring that they do not experience any technological difficulties or interruptions during the exam. Technical problems with the student’s personal device are not considered an acceptable reason to be allowed to restart or retake the exam. Suggested laptops are those that have a Windows operating system. If a student does not own/have access to a laptop they should take the appropriate steps to check out a loaner laptop from the IT department located on the fifth floor of 18 S. Michigan. If a student needs a loaner laptop, they are encouraged to set this up at the beginning of the term due to limited availability. Electronic device for exam must have Google Chrome and/or Microsoft Bing installed as the ATI preferred browser. Testing and/or Course Accommodations If a student needs testing and/or course accommodations it is the student’s responsibility to contact the Center for Student Accessibility Resources- https://nl.edu/ada-accessibility-services o REMEMBER if you need accommodations, you MUST set them up with the Center for Student Accessibility Resources BEFORE your first exam in week 3. o REMEMBER it is the student’s responsibility to provide the accommodations letter to their faculty EACH term in each course the student is registered for. Missed Exam It is expected that students will take exams at the time identified on the course schedule. A make- up exam will only be given under certain circumstances. The student is to notify the instructor no later than 1 hour prior to the start of the exam requesting to be excused and to schedule the make-up exam. The student will provide the faculty within 48 hours of missed exam, documentation supporting the excusable reason for missing the exam via email. An exam make- up will only be considered for the following: 1. illness for which the student and/or family member sees a physician/provider and receives a physician/provider’s note 2. death in the family for which the student is able to produce documentation 3. a funeral in the family for which the student is able to produce documentation 4. jury duty for which the student is able to produce documentation Any other reasons for missing an exam will result in the student not being allowed to make up the exam and the student will earn a 0 for that exam. A second exam absence will result in referral to the Executive Director of Nursing and in possible dismissal from the course and/or program § If the student forgets to provide the accommodations letter at the beginning of the term accommodations are not retroactive. The accommodations will begin once the letter is provided to the faculty.
