The NLU Student Conduct Procedures and Academic Policies operate independently of program-level academic and professional evaluation processes. Outcomes resulting from the university processes may occur in addition to, or separate from, actions taken by the program or the SPDC. Student Conduct Alleged violations of the National Louis University Student Conduct Code will be addressed through the university’s established conduct procedures. Student conduct decisions have an appeal procedure. Please refer to the University Student Guidebook for more information on student conduct investigations and appeal procedures. Academic Policies Like the Student Conduct procedures, National Louis University maintains an institutional academic policy and process through which students may appeal academic decisions for any of the following reasons: • The criteria and procedures for the decision were not published. • The published criteria and procedures were not consistent with college, school, division, department or program policy and procedures, or violate a student's rights. • The published criteria and procedures were not followed in making the decision. This includes factual and calculation errors or major errors in judgment. Reasonable and customary academic judgments are specifically excluded from this review process. • The decision was substantially influenced by factors other than published criteria; i.e., the decision was discriminatory. It is the student’s responsibility to furnish supporting evidence to substantiate their appeal. The following types of disputes are covered under the academic appeals process: • Graded assignments (ie. exams, papers, presentations, projects, and field experience) • Final grades Separately, issues surrounding academic honestly have a formal procedure. Faculty has the right to analyze and evaluate students’ coursework, including the electronic submission of student assignments to a third- party plagiarism and artificial intelligence (AI) detection service. The procedure is outlined in the University Catalog under Policies. Students found to have engaged in academic dishonesty are subject to disciplinary action and may be dismissed from the University. The student or faculty member involved in the academic honesty procedures have a right to appeal the decision.
