NLU PA Program — Didactic Year Handbook
The Program periodically reviews aggregate grievance and appeal data as part of continuous program improvement, including the number and type of grievances, academic versus non-academic and clinical versus didactic concerns, time to resolution, appeal outcomes, recurring concerns, policy-related concerns, student feedback, retaliation allegations, harassment/discrimination trends when reportable in aggregate, and resulting corrective actions. Individual student identities are not disclosed in aggregate reports except as permitted or required by law. The purpose of this assessment is to identify opportunities to improve Program policies, communication, faculty development, clinical education, student support, academic processes, student services, and the overall student educational experience — not to discourage complaints.
XXIX. Policy Communication
This policy is made readily available to prospective and enrolled students through the Program’s public website, student handbook, catalog, or other readily accessible electronic platform, and students are informed of the policy during orientation and reminded of grievance and appeal procedures at appropriate points during the curriculum.
XXX. Student Responsibilities
Students are responsible for reviewing applicable Program and University policies, raising concerns promptly, providing accurate information, meeting applicable deadlines, maintaining professionalism, preserving relevant documentation, participating honestly in investigations, maintaining confidentiality regarding other students and patient information, following clinical-site requirements, and cooperating with resolution processes. A student is not penalized merely because a good-faith grievance is unsuccessful.
XXXI. Faculty and Staff Responsibilities
Faculty and staff shall treat student concerns seriously, provide accurate information about applicable procedures, avoid retaliation, maintain appropriate confidentiality, refer concerns to the appropriate University office when required, document relevant matters, cooperate with investigations, avoid conflicts of interest, and apply Program policies consistently. Faculty and staff shall not discourage a student from exercising a legitimate grievance or appeal right.
XXXII. Program Director Responsibilities
The Program Director ensures that grievance and appeal policies remain current, published, and accessible; ensures faculty and staff understand applicable procedures; receives or appropriately routes MSPAS student concerns; ensures appropriate referral to University offices; avoids participating when a conflict of interest exists; monitors aggregate grievance trends; reports significant policy concerns through appropriate governance channels; and ensures the Program’s grievance procedures remain aligned with ARC-PA Standards and NLU policies.
