NLU PA Program — Didactic Year Handbook

The program will make reasonable efforts to direct students to available University resources; however, financial hardship or employment obligations do not alter the academic and clinical requirements of the PA Program.

11. No Accommodation for Employment

Students are expected to understand that choosing to work while enrolled is a personal decision and does not create an obligation for the program to accommodate the student’s employment schedule . The program will not: change required class times because of employment; provide alternative examination times solely because of employment; modify clinical rotation schedules solely because of employment; excuse absences caused by employment; reduce required clinical hours because of employment; extend deadlines because of employment; provide alternative assignments because of employment; modify required laboratory or simulation activities because of employment; guarantee placement at a clinical site that accommodates employment; or modify program progression requirements because of employment. Students who cannot meet program requirements because of employment may be subject to the same academic, attendance, professionalism, or progression policies applicable to all students.

12. Policy Violations and Student Progress

Maintaining employment is not, by itself, considered a violation of this policy when employment is otherwise lawful and does not conflict with University or program requirements. However, failure to meet program requirements because of employment may result in consequences under the applicable NLU PA Program policy. For example, a student may be subject to academic or professional review if employment contributes to excessive absences, missed examinations, failure to complete assignments or required clinical hours, poor clinical performance, unprofessional conduct, failure to meet competency requirements, failure to comply with clinical-site expectations, patient safety concerns, or failure to meet progression requirements. The program will evaluate such circumstances based on the applicable academic, attendance, professionalism, clinical education, and student progression policies.

13. Student Acknowledgment

Upon matriculation, students will acknowledge that they have reviewed and understand this policy and agree that:

1. The NLU PA Program strongly discourages employment during enrollment.

2. The PA Program is a rigorous full-time graduate professional program.

3. Employment may substantially interfere with the time required for academic and clinical success.

4. Students who choose to work remain responsible for meeting all program requirements.

5. The program will not accommodate employment-related conflicts.
