Re: Obtaining Permissions for Video Recording

Dear School or District Administrator,

We appreciate your willingness to host a NLU student teacher in preparation to become a licensed professional. To fulfill requirements for the NLU Teacher Preparation program leading to the Professional Educator License (PEL) in Illinois, teacher candidates complete a performance assessment during full- day student teaching. This performance assessment requires that candidates document a series of lessons using video recordings. These requirements were sent to the school when the placement was confirmed. PLEASE NOTE: NLU also uses videotaping as a tool to have candidates engage in self-assessment. This also provides a platform where clinical educators/faculty can provide targeted lesson feedback during the clinical experience. We find the use of video reflection and feedback a valuable tool that supports our candidates’ growth as they build their competencies and confidence as beginning teachers. If permission to videotape is required, the video release form is provided below. Please note that a school-provided release can also suffice for this permission requirement.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jamillah Gilbert Professor Director, School of Teacher Preparation National Louis University Jgilbert11@nl.edu
