The NLU MSPAS Program shall: • Publish its dismissal policy and procedures and make them readily available to prospective and enrolled students; • Apply the policy consistently to all students, regardless of instructional or clinical location; • Use remediation, as defined in the Academic Progression and Remediation Policy, as the primary response to identified academic and professional deficiencies before dismissal, except where this policy identifies conduct that warrants immediate referral; • Provide written notice of the grounds for possible dismissal and an opportunity for the student to be heard before a dismissal decision is made; • Separate the committee recommendation from the final decision; • Provide written notice of the decision, its effective date, its consequences, and available appeal rights; • Document every dismissal action in the student's confidential educational record; and • Review aggregate dismissal and attrition data as part of the Program's continuous quality improvement process. III. GUIDING PRINCIPLES A. Fairness Students shall be informed of the specific concerns that may lead to dismissal and shall have an opportunity to respond before a final determination is made. B. Consistency The Program shall apply the published grounds and procedures for dismissal consistently to similarly situated students. C.
