The Paris Café Writing Scholarship for the B.A. in Communication and Media Program GUIDELINES AND POLICY Updated July 20, 2026 The Paris Café Writing Scholarship at National Louis University was established in 2014 by Patricia Tennison, adjunct professor of writing at National Louis University and founder of Paris Café Writing. The information below is for the Academic Year 2025/2026 application process. I. PURPOSE: Funds from the scholarship are used toward the expenses including registration in the Paris Café Writing program, travel to Paris, France, and lodging during the program. II. SCHOLARSHIP DATE: The trip will take place May 16-22, 2027. The scholarship recipient will be selected by September 1, 2026, to ensure ample time for making travel arrangements. III. GENERAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT: Recipients must have been enrolled as students in the Communication and Media Program in the academic calendar year of 2025/2026; must have been chosen to be published in the Fall 2025, Winter 2026, and/or Spring/Summer 2026 issue/s of Communications Quarterly magazine; be in good academic standing; and be of reliable character. In the application form, they must (1) write why they want to attend the Paris Café Writing program, (2) write what their writing goals are, (3) express any special considerations, including financial need, (4) attach their Communications Quarterly piece/s, and (5) attach an additional writing sample.
IV. SPECIFIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT: The eligible student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
V. AWARD SELECTION COMMITTEE: A committee of writing specialists in the Communication and Media program, overseen by the Director of the B.A. in Communication Program as well as the PCW founder.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESSES:
Application process: On behalf of the Paris Café Writing Scholarship, the director of the Communication and Media program, National Louis University, 122 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60603, will lead the following functions: 1. Announce the availability of the scholarship to eligible students in the Communication and Media Program. 2. In coordination with the Undergraduate College, the Communication and Media Program Department will receive applications and review their completeness. The Communication and Media Program Department will maintain the records of all applicants. 3. Coordinate with the NLU Registrar’s office for the verification of the chosen scholarship student's valid student status. Selection Process: Upon receipt of the applications and review of all materials for consideration, the committee will notify the Communication and Media Program Department and the NLU Office of Finance of the recipient. VIII. PAYMENT PROCESS: The 2027 scholarship will cover the tuition for Paris Café Writing, roundtrip coach airfare from Chicago to Paris, and hotel for seven nights, for a maximum of $4,000, paid through NLU Office of Finance.
