HIGHLIGHTS OF 2025-2026

Preparing Caring Professionals Dr. Breon Rose, College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences co-authored “An Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis of Black Affectional Minority Men Gamers,” published in the Journal of Creativity in Mental Health . The study extends the research base on mental health, and digital communities by illuminating how video gaming can foster resilience, authentic connection, and well-being among Black affectional minority men, an understudied population in counseling research. Drs. Tara Bryant-Edwards, Crystal ‘Doc’ Murdock, and Breon Rose , College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, presented “Using program evaluation to gain insight into the needs of minoritized students and faculty” at the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision 2025 Conference, offering a clear framework for identifying and addressing equity needs in counseling departments. Drs. Emese Vitalis, Christina Biedermann, Leah Horvath, Misty Mann, and Anissa Rivers, College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, presented “Let’s talk about menopause: from symptoms and stigma to empowerment” at the Illinois Psychological Association (IPA) Annual Convention, contributing to professional dialogue on women’s health, mental health, and clinical practice.
