In the case of an emergency, the following procedures should be followed by those in the path of a hurricane.

Prepare: •

Make a plan with your family before hurricane season. • Know your flood risk, and learn how to fid a shelter and evacuation routes. • Gather supplies for a “Go - Kit” and a “Stay -at-Home- Kit.” • Follow instructions of local authorities and evacuate if told to do so.

During the Storm: •

Stay inside and away from windows, skylights, and glass doors. • Go to a small interior room, closet, or hallway on the lowest level of your home. • If you lose power, turn off major appliances to reduce damage.

After the Storm: •

Stay away from downed power lines and damaged buildings. • Assume all downed power lines are live. • If you smell gas, leave the area and call your local utility provider. • Don’t use a wet electrical device until an electrician has checked it . • Boil water for at least one minute before drinking or using it for food preparation.

Other Tips: •

Listen to local radio or TV for updates. • Be prepared to evacuate to a shelter or neighbor’s home if necessary. • Sign up for free emergency alerts from your local government. • Learn first aid and CPR.
