When Academic Dishonesty is suspected the School of Nursing will follow NLU’s Academic Honesty Policy found in the Undergraduate Catalog under Academic Policies and Procedures; Procedure for Handling Academic Dishonesty.

Artificial Intelligence Usage Policy The School of Nursing at National Louis University enforces the University standards of honesty and integrity in all academic-related work. The School of Nursing will not tolerate plagiarism, intentional misrepresentation of/or as the student’s original work, or misconduct. Generative Artificial Intelligence such as Chat GPT can be used to assist the student to generate ideas and outlines, if approved in advance by the course faculty, but should never replace a student’s original work. However, Generative AI usage is not allowed for creation or submission of assignments including but not limited to discussion boards, reflections, and/or papers. Each course faculty may amend this policy for their course. If permission is granted then the use of artificial intelligence must be properly documented and credited. For example, text generated using ChatGPT-3 should include a citation such as “ChatGPT-3 (YYYY, Month DD) then the text of your query and a statement that says “generated using OpenAI with the hyperlink to the site. All written assignments, with the exception of discussion board responses, must be submitted through the Turnitin tool within the course management system. Turnitin may be used to assess submissions for originality and to identify potential use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools. An AI-use indicator of 30% or higher will result in the assignment being flagged for further faculty review. The AI-use indicator alone does not constitute a determination of academic misconduct. Faculty will review the flagged submission and may consider the assignment, course requirements, student work, and other relevant information when determining whether the submission complies with the course and University academic integrity policies. If the faculty review identifies a potential violation of academic integrity or applicable University policy, the matter will be addressed in accordance with established University and School of Nursing procedures. 11. Professionalism & Code of Conduct The public consistently ranks nursing as the most trusted profession. Maintaining that trust requires that nurses, including student nurses, engage in professional conduct with a positive attitude, integrity, respect, collegiality, and benevolence. Adherence to expected professional conduct prepares students for entry into the professional community and protects patients, faculty, students, and healthcare staff from undue stress. The School of Nursing maintains a zero-tolerance policy for incivility, bullying, horizontal/lateral violence or similar behaviors and will vigorously investigate any suspected, reported or observed incidents . Examples of professional conduct becoming of a future registered nurse include but are not limited to: i. Approaching and treating faculty, peers, clients, families, and healthcare staff with respect and courtesy in all interactions (in person and electronically).
