Introduction to Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Comprehensive Examination Students should be able to pass a comprehensive exam on the core 10 program areas of counseling. The aim of the comprehensive exam is to objectively evaluate students’ knowledge in the areas of Professional Counseling Orientation and Ethical Practice, Human Growth and Development, Theories, Personal Awareness, Social and Cultural Diversity, Counseling and Helping Relationships, Group Work, Research and Program Evaluation, and Assessment and Testing and to prepare you to pass your licensure exam. The passing score is at least an overall 70% score which indicates the student is proficient in the content necessary to complete practicum and internship successfully. Examination Content Comprehensive exam preparation will be available to students through D2L course HSC 560 during the term in which they register for the comprehensive exam. It includes practice exams and other support materials. When to Take the Comprehensive Examination? Comprehensive exams may be taken after a student has successfully completed the NLU CMHC core curriculum. If not taken previously, you will automatically be registered for comps during the term in which you take practicum. If you have questions, please reach out to your Faculty Advisor.
